I was commissioned by MSF (Doctors Without Borders) to create an artwork for World TB Day. This feature tells the story of how Sinethemba became the muse for my painting. The painting was unveiled in Khayelitsha at the sport centre on World TB Day (24 March). The painting will be kept at the MSF offices in Khayelitsha.
It was absolute pleasure to be part of such an amazing and fulfilling project.

MASH-UP
THE ALEX HAMILTON STUDIO AND GALLERY
By: Mandy J Watson
Posted: 7 September 2012 Comic panels, superheroes, art, ephemera, vintage toys, stencil art, painting, and a little bit of humour have all been mashed together by four South African artists currently exhibiting in a new show in Cape Town in which pop culture takes centre stage. Last week Cape Town artist Alex Hamilton opened his latest exhibition, Mash-Up, at his new, larger space in Barron Street, Woodstock. Mash-Up features new art by Alex as well as works by artists Aidon Westcott, Claude Chandler, and Warren Raysdorf, all of which complement each other and are a treat for fans of comics and pop culture. KZNSA 2011 MEMBERS' EXHIBITION
25 JANUARY 2011 – 19 FEBRUARY 2011
The KZNSA is a member-based organisation that has been in existence for over a century. In this time, it has grown from a non-formal association of artists (who met to discuss, exhibit and market their work) to a public-benefit organisation that today is home to one of the leading contemporary art gallerys in South Africa, a shop that stocks important local and national craft and design, and a number of outreach programmes that sees the love for and benefit of arts and culture nurtured with a range of communities, especially young people.
The cornerstone of the KZNSA is its member base from which, annually, the KZNA council and working group committees are selected. In appreciation for the support by its constituency, the KZNSA hosts an annual member’s exhibition, presenting members with an opportunity to produce and exhibit artwork according to a theme. This year, the theme is THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. Expect an eclectic and exciting mix of submissions from some of the province’s leading professional artists, and also work from emerging young talents.
2011 Members' Exhibition Winners:
1st prize (R10 000) Wendy von Varendorff
2nd prize (R 5 000) Claude Chandler
3rd prize (R 2 500) Rafael Dominguez
Most innovative interpretation of the theme (R1 500) Veronica Peano
Special Merit (R1 000) Pam Benporath

artSPACE durban "Inspiration" - Durban Art Gallery Archive Show 28 March - 16 April 2011
A group of KwaZulu-Natal-based artists met on December 9th at the Durban Art Gallery archives with the formidable task to find the one artwork that was most inspirational to each of them. At the end of the day twenty-five artists came away with twenty-five images that have now become their foundations of a new artwork. There were no restrictions as to the subject matter chosen nor are there any restrictions as to the interpretations. The exhibition will showcase both images of the original artworks and the interpretations.
